POINT OF LIGHT: Taryn Davis

Taryn Davis was about to graduate from college at the age of 23 when her husband/soulmate was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq. She desperately wanted to talk with another young, widow but could find no one. She set out across the country to find other young military widows with whom she could share stories of love, loss and survival.

What started with Taryn's own personal journey evolved into the non-profit organization, The American Widow Project. The AWP is "dedicated to the new generation of those who have lost the heroes of yesterday, today and tomorrow, with an emphasis on healing through sharing stories, tears and laughter; military widow to military widow."

I am so impressed with Taryn who, at a very young age, was able to turn her grief into something positive to help other widows. Being the founder of the AWP might not be the road Taryn planned to travel but she is lighting up that road for our nations young military widows. Taryn Davis is a very bright Point of Light.

Congratulations President Bush!

We have supported George W. as well, but we here at The Light The World Parade wanted you to know how much creating the Points of Light Institute inspired us to create The Light The World Parade.

First appearing at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, The Light The World Parade has now appeared in Dallas, Atlanta, Colorado Springs, and Nashville as we continue to mobilize youth and young adults to Give Back Big.

It is now our sincere hope to take your volunteer message to the world as we pursue a quest to participate in the cultural celebrations of the London 2012 Olympic Games! You inspire us to keep moving forward.

Please enjoy the video here featuring TobyMac, Amy Grant and our children, the future of America and the world. 'You don't have to wait for the world to change. . .You can make it happen.'

Thank you Mr. President for all you have done to create more Light in the World!

with love and admiration,
Ed James
Director, The Light The World Parade
